ELDORADO

Eldorado is a photographic project by Valeria Becerra and Clarisse Charbonnier; it shows through golden colour, the ordinary as well as the extraordinary. The series consists of eleven photographs. For each of them, an object or subject is the colour gold. These are photographs of scenes from different regions of Colombia; witnesses of places that would not fit into the traditional representation of Colombia. The golden objects in the images belong to everyday life, according to our perspective, they are essential and are proof of rich life forms that sometimes go unnoticed. At first glance, they may seem irrelevant or worthless. However, these are elements that pay tribute to those who use them and to their community.

The project transits between documentary and poetics. For this reason, we wanted to document non-traditional places. However, when a golden object or subject is present in the photograph, the documentary is transformed, and the poetic dimension of gold changes the visual aspect.

Eldorado brought us together: Valeria, Colombian and Clarisse, French. When we met, during our photography studies in Bogota, we quickly realised that the combination of creative approaches could give meaning to the place we met.
